OnlyFans glossary: thirty terms, each with the number behind it

This glossary gives, next to each word, the figure it stands for on real accounts: what a rebill rate should be, where a pay-per-view sequence breaks, how long a payout waits. Every number links to the page that works it out, and all of them are collected on how OnlyFans actually works, in numbers.

Short answer

The five terms that decide most of an account's income: the revenue split (10% subscriptions, 15% tips, 75% messages on our paid accounts), the rebill rate (30% to 40% is healthy, under 15% to 20% is a problem), pay-per-view (floors of $8 and $12, a platform ceiling of $200), whales (10% of subscribers produce 90% of message revenue) and gross versus net (a $10,000 payout is $12,500 of fan spend, because OnlyFans keeps 20%).

All thirty are below in alphabetical order, each with the figure it stands for and the page that works it out.

The terms, 1099 to Login

1099 form

The form a US platform uses to report what it paid you to the IRS. OnlyFans withholds no tax from creator payouts, so the income tax and the self-employment tax on it are yours to pay, usually in quarterly installments. The arithmetic on a real figure is on OnlyFans taxes for US creators.

Agency commission

The share of a creator's revenue an agency keeps. The word that decides its cost is the basis: 40% of gross costs exactly what 50% of net costs, because gross is before the platform's 20%. FantasyRise charges 30% to 60% of net. How rates are stated across the market is on agency commission explained.

Chargeback

A fan disputing a card payment with their bank after the fact. OnlyFans' terms deduct the creator's share of any chargeback or refund from her earnings. If OnlyFans withholds earnings after a review, a decision not disputed within six months of the notice is final. Details on the payout schedule.

Chatter

A person who writes messages to fans on a creator's behalf. On our accounts 24 hour cover is cut into four shifts of six hours, and a chatter trains for at least three months before a message of theirs reaches a fan. How that team works is on the chat team.

Churn

Subscribers leaving. 70% to 80% of new subscribers cancel inside month one, almost all shortly before the renewal would be charged, so about two thirds of a list has to be replaced every month just to hold its size. See rebill rate.

Custom content

A photo or video made to order for one fan. On our accounts single pieces have sold for $200 to $10,000. Pricing logic on what to charge for PPV.

DMCA takedown notice

The legal notice that gets a leaked copy removed from a site or from Google. It needs no lawyer and no registered copyright. Our accounts send 500 to 5,000 a month, with peaks of 10,000, and content is usually down in one to two days. A notice generator is on the takedown page.

Fan payment

Anything a fan pays: subscription, message, tip, pay-per-view unlock. OnlyFans keeps 20% of every fan payment and the creator receives 80%, quoted from its own terms on how to start an OnlyFans.

Free account

An account with no subscription price, earning only from messages and tips. It converts visitors into subscribers about ten times better than a paid one, and a free subscriber is worth about $4.00 net a month, so about 2,500 of them produce a $10,000 payout. See a $10,000 month.

Gross and net

Gross is what fans spend, net is what the creator receives after the platform's 20%. A $10,000 payout needs $12,500 of fan spend. Any percentage in a contract means something different depending on which of the two it is taken from.

Leak

Paid content reposted somewhere for free. The cost is not the one copy, it is every future sale that copy replaces. What that comes to in money is on what a leak costs, and the free leak check sends you every copy we find within 24 hours.

The email and password of the OnlyFans account. The creator should keep it: management, messaging and scheduling can all be done without an agency ever holding it. Which agencies say so in writing is on agencies that let you keep the login.

The terms, Mass message to Whale

Mass message

One message sent to the whole subscriber list, usually with a locked video. It buys at 1% to 2% and makes up 7% to 27% of message revenue on our accounts. We send one at most every two to four weeks.

Minimum term

A clause that binds a creator to an agency for a fixed period, often 6 to 36 months. Not illegal, but the thing to read before signing. FantasyRise has none. Clause by clause on agency contracts.

Notice period

How long before leaving takes effect. FantasyRise has no notice period: a creator can end the agreement at any time, effective immediately. How to leave an agency that does have one is on leaving an agency.

An account with a monthly subscription price. A paying subscriber is worth about $33.33 net a month on our accounts, eight times a free one, so about 300 of them produce a $10,000 payout.

Pay-per-view (PPV)

A locked photo or video sent in a message that the fan pays to open. Our floors are $8 on a free account and $12 on a paid one; OnlyFans caps a single message at $200. Full pricing on what to charge for PPV.

Payout

Moving earnings from OnlyFans to a bank. The minimum withdrawal is $20; a SEPA transfer takes 1 to 3 business days and a US direct deposit 1 to 5. Every step on the payout schedule.

Pending balance

Earnings not yet withdrawable. A fan payment waits 7 days before it can be paid out, and in a few countries 21 days for the first four months of payouts.

Platform fee

What the site keeps. OnlyFans, Fansly, LoyalFans, FanCentro and JustForFans all take 20%; Fanvue takes 15% in a creator's first month and 20% after. The comparison is on OnlyFans alternatives.

PPV sequence

A run of pay-per-view messages at rising prices, usually five steps between the floor and the ceiling. On our accounts buyers stop at step three, around $50, and past it the buy rate recovers, because the fans still there intend to buy the whole run.

Rebill rate

The share of subscribers whose subscription renews. 30% to 40% on our accounts; below 15% to 20% something is wrong that pricing will not fix. Worked out on what a good rebill rate is.

Reply time

How long a fan waits for the first answer. 60 to 120 seconds on average on our accounts, never above two minutes as a target, and 10% to 15% of a day's messages arrive between midnight and 6am. See how fast an agency should reply.

Revenue split

Where an account's money comes from. On our paid accounts 10% subscriptions, 15% tips, 75% messages. On a free account the subscription line is zero. The whole reconciliation is on a $10,000 month.

Self-employment tax

The US Social Security and Medicare tax a self-employed creator pays on top of income tax: 15.3% on 92.35% of net earnings, with the Social Security part capped at an annual wage base. It surprises more first-year creators than income tax does. See OnlyFans taxes.

Shadowban

Instagram or TikTok quietly limiting who sees an account's posts. Recovery took anywhere from a few minutes to two weeks on our accounts and tracked the account's history more than anything done afterwards. See the shadowban page.

Subscription price

The monthly price on a paid account. The list price is usually $8 to $25, but because discounts run continuously an average subscription brings in about $4.17, which is why it is the smallest line of the month.

Tips

Money a fan sends without buying anything. About 15% of revenue on our accounts.

Traffic

Where new subscribers come from. Around 90% from Instagram and TikTok on our accounts, with Reddit behind short-form video rather than beside it. The first hundred arrive between a day and two weeks after posting starts; see the first 100 subscribers.

Whale

A fan who spends far more than the rest. About 10% of subscribers produce about 90% of message revenue, and a paying fan spends $300 to $1,000 a month.

Common questions

What does PPV mean on OnlyFans?

Pay-per-view: a locked photo or video sent in a message that the fan pays to open. On our accounts pay-per-view starts at $8 on a free account and $12 on a paid one, OnlyFans caps a single message at $200, and messages including pay-per-view make up about 75% of revenue.

What is a good rebill rate on OnlyFans?

30% to 40% of subscribers renewing is what our accounts run at. Below 15% to 20% something is wrong that pricing will not fix, usually who was brought in rather than what happened after. Separately, 70% to 80% of new subscribers cancel inside the first month.

What is the difference between gross and net on OnlyFans?

Gross is what fans spend, net is what the creator receives after OnlyFans keeps its 20%. A $10,000 payout needs $12,500 of fan spend. An agency commission of 40% of gross costs the same as 50% of net, which is why the basis matters more than the percentage.

What is a whale on OnlyFans?

A fan who spends far more than everyone else. On our accounts about 10% of subscribers produce about 90% of message revenue, and a paying fan spends $300 to $1,000 a month, which is why reply speed matters more than posting volume.

How long does an OnlyFans payout take?

A fan payment sits in the pending balance for 7 days, can then be withdrawn from $20, and reaches a European bank by SEPA in 1 to 3 business days or a US bank in 1 to 5. In a few countries the pending period is 21 days for the first four months.
